35th Annual Classic is Back!

The Fountain City Classic (FCC) is an annual football game between two historically black universities, Fort Valley State University (Wildcats) and Albany State University (Golden Rams). Held at A.J. McClung Memorial Stadium in Columbus, Georgia, the rivalry began in 1945 and officially became the Fountain City Classic in 1990 when the game relocated to Columbus.

The FCC weekend draws an estimated 45,000 spectators to the stadium and the grounds of South Commons, with a rich history and deep pride connecting students, alumni, and surrounding communities. The event is more than just a game; it’s a celebration of education, community, and fierce competition, creating an unforgettable experience both on and off the field.

Over the years, the FCC has expanded from a weekend event to a week-long celebration, featuring a range of activities, including a Community Worship Service, Media Press Conference, College Recruitment Fair, Networking Mixer, Morning Coffee Sip, Golf Tournament, Chairman’s Reception, Pre-game Party, Game Day Parade, and the Football Game itself, followed by an After Party.

The Fountain City Classic is organized over a span of nine months by a dedicated group of ASU and FVSU alumni, along with community and business leaders. The committee is led by Chairman Calvin Smyre and Executive Director Robbie Branscomb. The Fountain City Classic office is located at 3575 Macon Road, Suite 26, Columbus, Georgia 31907, with the mailing address at P.O. Box 981, Columbus, Georgia 31902.
